stand-by time. It
also comes with
support for Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth 2.1,
Dual-SIMs, 3G, and
GPS and is
available in three
colour variants,
namely, Black,
White and Gold.
The Fire Plus, an
upgrade to

1.4GHz Octa-core
processor, running
Android 4.4 OS and
a built-in InnUI

What’s Hot and
Not Hot About The
Infinix Hot Note
[GALLERY
Just when we
thought that
Dubai-based
Chinese mobile
phone
manufacturer,Infinix
Mobilitywould
relax and enjoy its
success in the
Nigerian market, it
recently released
the Infinix Hot
Note, which is, the
big brother version
of the Infinix Hot.
READ: Infinix
Hot: The
GearLoy Review
Recall that the
Infinix Hot and
Infinix Zero were
released to the
Nigerian market
not too long ago
and have both
witnessed
impressive
sales. Within 24
hours of its
release, the Infinix
Hot Note became
the fastest selling
sales pre-order in
the history of
JUMIA.
But the release of
the Infinix Hot
Note was
expected since
some specific
features and
specs which the
Infinix Hot and the
Infinix Zero lacked
were taken care of
in this release,
especially with
regards to the
crave for the
‘phablet’ form
factor for
smartphones.
I received an
Infinix Hot Note
unit from JUMIA
last week and I
have been playing
with it, so here’s
my take of this
nicely designed
bigger version of
the Infinix Hot.
First, what’s in the
box?
The phone comes
in four colours,
namely Mint Green,
Anthracite Grey,
Champagne Gold
and Copper Brown.
The unit I received
was Mint Green (as
pictured above).
When you unbox,
you will find the
phone, a USB 2.0
charging cable and
charger, white
earphones, and of
course those
safety information
and user guides
that most people
hardly read these
days.
The Infinix Hot
Note is from the
Hot family, but
takes things one
step ahead by
increasing the size
of the screen to
5.5 inches with HD
Capacitive Touch
Screen at 720 x
1280 screen
resolution.
At first, I was
thinking that since
this is the same
resolution with the
Samsung GALAXY
A5 (which is 5-
inches, by the
way), the
resolution would
be overstretched
and the display
would be pix-
elated. Happily,
the display was
crystal clear and
there was no pix-
elation
whatsoever.
The phone is Dual-
SIM enabled
offering dual
standby, so that
comes in handy
with two micro-SIM
cards. The front
facing camera is 2
megapixels, while
the rear camera is
8 megapixels,
which is an
upgrade from the
Infinix Hot’s 5
mega pixel rear
camera.
The Hot Note also
comes with some
premium features
like Bluetooth 4.0
(meaning that
your Nike Fuel
Band or Fitbit Flex/
One is going to
work with it). You
can also pop in an
external microSD
card up to 32 GB,
though the phone
comes with a 16 GB
internal memory
and 1 GB of RAM,
the same with the
Infinix Hot.
Here, don’t expect
anything new with
the design of the
Infinix Hot Note
since it looks
pretty much like
the Infinix Hot,
although with a
larger screen size.
Another difference
is that the
resolution was
bumped to 720 x
1280, which is
significantly higher
than the 480 x 854
on the Infinix Hot.
The volume rocker
and the power
button is to the
right of the phone,
the 3.5 mm jack
port is at the top,
while the charging
port is at the
bottom.
At the back of the
phone is the
Infinix logo and
the HOT NOTE
branding, close to
the base of the
phone and you can
find the micro-SIM
card slots and the
microSD card slots
when you open
the back of the
phone. The rear
camera is at the
top left corner
with the LED flash
close to it.
However, I think
that the build of
the Hot Note
makes it feel a
little bit chunky,
although the
company claims
that it is the
slimmest and
lightest 5.5-inch
device in the
market at 8.9mm
thickness and
weighing 172
grammes.
When compared
with the GALAXY
Note 4 which is
equally a 5.5 inch
device at 8.5mm
thickness and
weighing 176
grammes, I would
have preferred if it
was slightly lighter
and slimmer so
that one can
handle it with one
hand atimes.
The screen of the
Infinix Hot Note
also attracts dirt
and leaves
smudges on it, so if
you have sweaty
fingers like mine or
your hand is dirty,
you will need to be
wiping the device’s
screen from time
to time.
The Infinix Hot
Note battery has
an awesome 4000
mAh, which is twice
the battery
capacity on the
Infinix Hot
smartphone. What
this means is that
the phone can last
for a whole day
upon full charge
and perhaps up to
two days,
depending on your
usage.
Of course, if you
use services that
constantly use a
lot data from the
internet, it could
impact on the
smartphone’s
battery life.
Although phone
makers like Infinix
sell accessories
such as power
banks as back-up
power, you might
not need to buy
one for the Infinix
Hot Note.
I have always said
that the quality of
a smartphone’s
image does not
depend on how
much megapixels it
packs. Here is an 8
MP camera that
delivers superb
photographs.
Although it lacks
optical image
stabilisation, if you
steady your
hands, you’ll surely
get excellent
pictures.
Here is a photo I
shot with the
camera. Let this
picture speak for
itself. If I can get a
picture this good
indoors, then
taking photos with
the Hot Note
outdoors during
the day will equally
be great.
However, the Hot
Note’s front facing
2 megapixels
camera did not
impress me, as it
took time for it to
focus and find my
face. So be sure to
take extra care,
and ensure that
your hands are
steady when using
the front facing
camera to avoid a
blurry image.
If you get the
Infinix Hot Note
from JUMIA , you
will get some
special offer to go
with it courtesy of
JIM, yeah that’s
JUMIA, Infinix and
MTN. If you insert
an MTN SIM into
the Hot Note, you’ll
get 2015 MB free
data bundle, and
100% data bonus
(terms and
conditions
applicable).
Another selling
point for the
Infinix Hot Note is
its price. At just
N23,500 on JUMIA,
this mid-range
smartphone is
unbelievably
affordable.
In fact, it appears
that phones that
sell at that price
range are
ubiquitous in the
market, although
with lower specs
and below par
performance when
compared with the
Hot Note.
So do these specs
and features
impress you
enough to want to
go out and pick
one? Have your
say in the
comments
or tweet at me.
